DJ 19sixty isn’t just a baby cute face. At such a young age it’s amazing how much experience he already has. Playing at almost every club in Central Florida, DJ 19sixty, spends pretty much every waking moment with music; He is constantly working on creating new tracks and beats, loves playing to a crowd, and even stays in on nights off just to practice. Creativity, talent, passion, and individuality all could describe his attitude and style.
I recently was able to do an interview with him to get inside his head and find out what we can expect to see from 19sixty in the future. Like Queso Kills, 19sixty earned a spot competing in the 2010 Red Bull 3-style DJ competition. Once I found out that not one, but two of Smile’s friends were competing, I made sure to black out the date on my calendar because this is definitely an event you do not want to miss. Interview:
Q: First, why the name 19sixty?
A: I was 19 when I started DJing and bought all my equipment and sixty was the year my Dad was born.
Q: What is your favorite type of playlist?
A: Depends on my mind, but I usually like a mix of all different types of songs/genres. The more diverse the better.
Q. Was music a part of your life growing up?
A: I would say so.
Q: How so?
A: Music has always been something I’ve always paid attention too. If it’s at the doctors, a grocery store, a club, listening to the radio, online, or when you’re even waiting on hold to order something over the phone.
Q: Do you play any instruments?
A; I’ve never tried to play any instruments, probably when I’m older I’ll get into some.
Q: What inspired you to start creating music and become a DJ?
A: I started listening to live mixes online and on the radio and just hearing the dope things these DJ’s were doing made me think to myself, “Damn, I should give it a try.”
Q: There is a rumor that you, like “Queso Kills”, is in the upcoming 2010 Red Bell 3-style DJ Competition. Is that true?
A: yes it is true and it should be a fun event.
Q: Are you excited?
A: Yeah definitely
Q: What are you doing to get ready for the competition?
A: I honestly haven’t started working on my set yet at all. I’m slacking but I’ll probably start organizing my ideas next week sometime and you know they’re going to be great.
Q: What else lies in the future for 19sixty?
A: Hopefully bigger and better opportunities, a good manager, better gigs, more music, more edits/mashups.
Q: What keeps you going?
A; Life, crowds of people I play music in front of, music, art, fashion, learning, practicing, everything…
Q: If not this, then what would you be doing?
A: I’d probably be in school still doing graphic design and photography.
Q; What do you do in your free time that doesn’t deal with Music?
A: Draw, play basketball, Seinfeld, thats pretty much my life.
