News! There’s a Mord in Your Future!

In April of 2011, we asked our readers “Have you listened to Mord lately?” and only 6 months later he’s booked in Orlando during one of the busiest months this scene has seen this year. First Joy Orbison, then Com Truise; now Mord Fustang is the latest linguistic trickster to come along with a too-clever-for-its-own-good, meta-po-mo, celebrity- or brand-riffing alias. When we first posted about him, Smile was willing to put a little money down that he was going to be climbing chart after chart. We actually should have because after only 6 months, the Estorian producer, has already released 5 singles for Miles Dyson’s Plasmapool label; all making charts and his music has been heard everywhere and even put into EPIC cereal commercials. (see below) Winston Wolfe, put it the best, “he has the patience of Dada Life, the ergonomics of Wolfgang, the sonic wonder of Skrillex.”

This Thursday, watch Joey Paranoia, DEFEP, and Quantum Theory open for Mord Fustang at The Beacham in downtown Orlando. Tickets are available HERE and for more information on the event, check out the Facebook event HERE! As always, we leave you a few tracks to pregame your ears with the free downloads below. ;)

Mega-Post! Rave to the Grave: Zed’s Dead @ Firestone Live! 09.29.11

On Thursday, September 29th, Canadian duo Zed’s Dead, alongside Quantum Theory and Takeovr residents Winston Wolfe and Joey Paranoia, are going to be burning Firestone Live completely to the ground. I may or may not mean this literally considering this awesomely long month, summer, and year we have had here in Orlando. I am sure though, that this is the first time two Pulp Fiction-related DJ’s have played together under the same roof. Let’s hope Miramax and Quentin Tarantino don’t sue. (Zed’s Dead clip, Winston Wolfe clip)

Zed’s Dead are embarking on their biggest tour to date, dubbed “The Graveyard Tour”. This is on the heels of their just finished “Rumble In The Jungle Tour” (in support of the forthcoming EP of the same name which you can preview HERE) The Graveyard Tour starts in their homeland of Canada, it continues south throughout the U.S., making a stop in Orlando! Check out the event page HERE. Purchase presales HERE. The duo, whose roots lie in hip-hop, create music with a smooth, melodic sound, that while remaining lush and approachable, does not sacrifice anything in the way of power or bass. The level of popularity they’ve reached is interesting considering the relatively low number of originals they have. Some of this has to do with the rare, challenging, and less-obvious material they choose to remix. Massive Attack, Blue Foundation, The Rolling Stones… not instinctively “dubstep-y”, yet the two deconstruct and reweave them into sonic tapestries bordering on eclipse of the originals. We’ve included a few below. If listening to these tracks or watching these videos doesn’t make you want to come out, why have you wasted your time reading this at all? See you next Thursday Orlando!

Zed’s Dead – Coffee Break
Zed’s Dead – Rude Boy
Blue Foundation – Eyes On Fire (Zed’s Dead Remix)
Massive Attack – Paradise Circus (Zed’s Dead Remix)
The Moody Blues – White Satin (Zed’s Dead Remix)

Music! Enjoy a Weekend In America, compliments of Wolfgang Gartner!

Dance music LPs have been cranking out faster than Charlie Sheen’s target heartrate lately. First, we Had Nero’s Welcome Reality. Then came Porter Robinson’s Spitfire (yeah, I know it’s listed as an EP, but I’m calling bullshit on that one).

Not to be left out of the mega-producer album release club, Wolfgang Gartner drops his Weekend In America today. The “Bonus Track” version is available on iTunes as we speak, and the “Deluxe Extended” version will be on Beatport in a few hours.

The album is structured similarly to Nero’s, in that in contains more or less every notable single the artist has released this year, as well as a healthy smattering of new joints. The recognizable tracks off the iTunes version are Space Junk, Menage a Trois, Illmerica, and Forever (feat. Wil. I. Am). Everything else is fresh and new, and made with the signature Wolfgang gloss and glitz. I’ve included one of his previously released tracks from the album, two new ones, and his BBC Essential Mix below for your listening pleasure. Enjoy kiddies! Also, Committee Entertainment is doing Wolfgang Gartner at Roxy Orlando on October 8th, so if you’re in the area and you wanna check out his Space Junk in person, you can do so there.

Music! Moombahsoul Volume III is Pure Baby Making Music.

If you haven’t heard of moombahton yet, you must have been living under a rock for the past year and haven’t been reading our previous “moombahwat” articles! This magical 108bpm genre has been blowing up all over the world and gaining exposure very rapidly due to the whole DIY punk rock mindset that the major moombahtonistas of this genre are representing. Moombahton has already created various sub genres such as moombahcore, moombahjazz and moombahsoul, the sexiest one of them all, Moombahsoul. It is straight up baby making music.; the kind of music you play when you’re about to lay some pipe with that special lady friend of yours.

Charlotte’s very own David Heartbreak is the man responsible for bringing Moombahsoul to the masses with his David Heartbreak presents: Moombahsoul compilation series. He’s previously released 2 that you can check out here and here and is back again for his third and final installment of the series. After this one, he’s passing on the Moombahsoul series torch to be presented by fellow leaders of the moombahsoul movement; Sabo, Jon Kwest and Atlantic Connection. With that being said, I feel that this is the best of the compilations so far. It covers all areas of the soul sub genre and includes touches of deep house, cumbia and even trance elements. Download this compilation, play it and get laid…

Music! “The Ones” before Takeovr’s 2nd: New B More/Harvard Bass!

Bart B More and Harvard Bass released their “The Ones” EP on B More’s own Secure Recordings this morning. Two tracks, and two different sounds, it’s punchy B More cake with Harvard Bass icing. The tracks are appropriately named as well, a tiny miracle in dance music. The Funky One delivers the early-evening vibes, and should be the sound track to your first drink. The Dark One is more the B More banger we’ve all come to know and love, with chunky, reverbed-out vocals and a bassline from hell. They’ve also released a corresponding video to The Funky One, which appears to be a sort of tour diary through Tijuana, Mexico, where everyone gets drunk and B More gets arrested. Enjoy, and I’ll see you at Smile For Camera’s TAKEOVR 2-Year Anniversary with Bart B More tomorrow night!

Music! “Watch the Throne” Remixed by L.A.’s Market Price!

I don’t know what it is about Jay-Z material that gets constant remix and mashup attention. We’ve had Collision Course (his official six-tracker with Linkin Park), The Grey Album (a mashup LP crafted from the Beatles White Album and Jay-Z’s Black Album, by DJ Danger Mouse) and Jaydiohead (a Jay-Z/Radiohead carwreck produced by New York producer Max Tannone).

Whatever the reason, we’ve got another one. This time, it’s an L.A. electro-dub-moombahton treatment from Market Price. Definitely hands-up rave material, they take Watch The Throne, Jay and Kanye’s already dance-influenced album, and put it through the wringer. What’s cool and gratifying about it, besides the overwhelming merit of each individual track, is the diversity of EDM sounds within. Sometimes it sounds like Skrillex, sometimes it sounds like Wolfgang Gartner, sometimes it sounds like Dillon Francis, and sometimes it sounds like Major Lazer . They’ve definitely been getting well-deserved blog love from places like MTV Hive, Pigeons And Planes, Idolator, and Earmilk. You just might be kind of an asshole if you don’t download it.

Music! Porterhouse! Porter Robinson’s ‘Spitfire’ EP Drops!

Porter Robinson’s Spitfire came out today. Technically an “extended EP”, this is the first release on Skrillex’s new OWSLA and listens more like an album. It’s electro, dubstep, progressive, trance, and even moombahton. It’s insane. Insomniac and Smile For Camera are bringing him to Takeovr next month (EVENT PAGE HERE). (PRESALE TICKETS HERE). That is all.
