Faux Pas

faux pas: [foh pah]
–noun, plural faux pas;
a slip or blunder in etiquette, manners, or conduct; an embarrassing social blunder or indiscretion.

Your guess is as good as mine on how this Australian artist came up with his stage name, but I guess that’s not really relevant because his mixing and producing skills are superb. It’s always hard to put a finger on music, especially when the artist doesn’t sound like anyone but themselves. If Bjork ran into Feist and Animal Collective and they have this crazy baby that married into Architecture in Helsinki, then you might find Faux Pas. That’s what’s crazy about it because some songs are more upbeat than others, some with vocals, others with none. But that’s what makes Faux Pas, Faux Pas, you never know what hes going to bring to the table.

(Editors Note: Since I’ve written this write-up on Faux Pas, he has answered a few of our questions that I was unable to. GO TEAM! Did I mention, he’s quite the character? Just continue reading.)

Faux Pas :( on how he came about his name) “I was obsessed with Scrabble at the time. So words, or combination’s of words with 7 letters were very important to me. In fact my scrabble obsession got out of hand, I think this happens to a lot of people (perhaps more now that facebook scrabble is so ubiquitous) but I got this thing where I would just obsessively start messing with anagrams in my head. It started innocently like I’d look at a number plate and just start trying to rearrange the letters into something that would score well on a scrabble board. In the end i was kept awake at night because random combination’s of 7 letters would come into my mind and I couldn’t shut it off. I got very good at scrabble though. Then my girlfriend said I had to stop playing. It was for my own good. Faux pas has 7 letters, including an X which is good in scrabble.”

Faux Pas :( on his earlier career and sound) “My early productions were heavily sample-based, very much reliant on the work of others, which at the time i thought to be pretty inappropriate, like an embarrassing musical blunder. i don’t sample as much any more. Although, thankfully I have not lost my soul-destroying self-effacing streak.”

“Chasing Waterfalls” is a one way flight from Laguardia to an island where there are only unicorns and fairies that play trumpets and other wind instruments while a gnome’s on the keyboard. I’m getting way too carried away with it, but I gurantee you, if you ever find yourself there…you’ll never want to leave. Faux Pas has kindly given us a 4-trak EP for Free or donation that can be found Here. So, do yourself a favor and get the other two songs I didn’t provide. But hey, luckily for you I’m throwing in a Faux Pas remix. Enjoy.
