I don’t know about you, but I’m already over all this holiday nonsense, and Christmas is still a day and a half away. Fortunately, Redlight Redlight has plenty going on this weekend to help wash away the unpleasantness of being trapped with relatives all day. I mean, you love ‘em, but if you’re like me, you wanted to fast forward straight to New Years sometime after Thanksgiving, in order to get this whole month of uptime, downtime, pointless half-weeks at work, and spending money you don’t have in the first place out of the way.
On Friday 12/26 Secret Weapon (who you might also know as Calvin from Park Ave CD’s) will be starting his new monthly night, GIANT!, which will highlight all sorts of rare disco. If you missed Disco Express 666 at Peacock back in October, don’t sleep on this, even if you think you don’t like disco. You will be pleasantly surprised, then converted, and dance your silly ass off in the process. Calvin’s selections are always 110% bangin’ and on point, no matter how far left of field he goes. I’ve seen the guy throw down things like Throbbing Gristle, then blend it over the top of a Venom track on the fly (something which in lesser hands would easily clear a club’s dance floor), and the kids went off harder than if Justice walked in and made it rain gold-plated $100 bills. No lie.
The following night, I’ll be back at Redlight again for the first time in a couple weeks, bringing my usual brand of genre-hopping mayhem. Shameless self promotion, I know…
There’s no cover both nights, and Redlight has the most extensive selection of (delicious) European and microbrewed beers in town, cheaper than anywhere else to boot, so if this weekend rolls around and your wallet is hurting, you know where to head. 745 Bennet Road, across the street from Roxy, which also makes for some fun people-watching from the porch. It also ensures a BBQ truck rolls in every night around midnight, that has thee most delicious ‘hood ribs you’ve ever had. No foolin’.
ALSO (just to make this post even longer), I just finished up a new mix late last week, that due to time constraints, I won’t have time to get pressed and packaged. So rather than having everyone wait on it for a couple months, thereby making these tracks like…85 years old in blog years, I’m just giving it away online now.
